New polls give Kasich boost in GOP race

A week after announcing what some said was a long shot bid for the Republican nomination, Gov. John Kasich of Ohio is suddenly very much part of the conversation in the polls in New Hampshire, where supporters have been running television ads on his behalf.

On Monday, Kasich suddenly appeared in fourth place in a New Hampshire poll taken by Marist College and NBC News; he was in third place in a Tuesday poll released by Monmouth University – both polls had him at 7 percent.

In a fundraising email, Kasich strategist John Weaver told backers, “there is real momentum here,” as the Ohio Governor tries to push his way into the GOP conversation.

Kasich bumped up to 4 percent in the latest CNN national poll; he will need a few more polls like that in order to get on the stage next week in Cleveland at the first Republican debate.

The Top Ten

Right now, these eight candidates seem to be a lock for the GOP debate:
+ Donald Trump
+ Scott Walker
+ Jeb Bush
+ Marco Rubio
+ Rand Paul
+ Ben Carson
+ Ted Cruz
+ Mike Huckabee

The next two slots would seem to be among Chris Christie, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Bobby Jindal, John Kasich, Carly Fiorina and Lindsey Graham.
